Home Inspector in Clarksville TN

Fireplace Inspections

An inspection or a house fire? You choose. It is estimated that 367,000 house fires could have probably be prevented in 2001.

Chimney care is one of the easier tasks that a home owner must tackle. Why? It is a job you shouldn’t do yourself. Almost every fire prevention agency recommends you hire a professional chimney sweep to inspect and clean your chimney annually. They will check for cracks in the lining, leaks, blockages, dead animals, and other debris.

The creosote built up in the chimney can be flammable and can cause tons of havoc if not swept out. Flames from in the firebox can burst into the chimney and ignite this creosote. Don’t use the fire place again until that has been checked if this should happen.

Inspections are especially good for older homes where there maybe more deterioration.

Homeowners can expect to pay between $50 and $100 for an inspection and up to $150 for an inspection and cleaning. This is per flue. That is a cheap price to pay though when you think it could be saving you thousands in fire damage or when you go to sell and find your fireplace needing overhauled because of lack of maintenance. A well maintained chimney has the probability of lasting forever, or a really long time.

Clarksville Home Inspection can do a great fireplace inspection, so give us a call if you need us.
